NYACK, N.Y. — Nyack native Christopher Thomas Matott died Saturday, May 21. He was 54.
Matott attended Rockland Community College, where he studied television production and media arts.
He also attended The School for Visual Arts in New York City.
He interned at CNBC, which led to freelance camera work with FOX and NBC.
Matott operated a camera that covered the first responders after 9/11 for four months after the collapse of the Twin Towers before landing his dream job as a camera operator for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
He moved to California to work on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and continued with Conan when the show moved to TBS.
The camera team he worked with for Conan was nominated for Creative Arts Emmys at least three times.
Matott also worked for NBC Sports and operated the camera at three Olympic Games, winning two Emmy Awards for work at the Olympics as part of the NBC Sports team.
Matott is survived by his father, Edmund Matott Jr.; his sister, Terry Goldman and her husband, Dean; his brother, Bud Matott and his wife, Pamela; and his sister, Catherine Preti and her husband, Mark. He also is survived by his nieces, Sarah, Francesca, Hannah and Mary Grace; and his nephews, Eamon and Danny.
Matott was predeceased by his mother, Aileen O'Leary Matott.
A Memorial Service for Matott will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hannemann's Funeral Home in Nyack.
